Body Scan - English - 16 Minutes

Body scan is a simple and basic exercise, one that develops presence and awareness of the here and now, of what is happening in the body now. The recording is a guided exercise, meaning through out the exercise we will hear the instructions and exercise accordingly. We will start by finding a comfortable sitting position. Our eyes may be open or closed, you can check what is better for you. After settling down we start scanning our body, one organ at a time, and we check whether there are sensations in the specific organ we are scanning. If there is a sensation, we will try to define it: a scratch, an itch, tingling, tickling, heat or cold, pain, what ever the sensation may be we notice it and note to ourselves of it. As we notice we try to develop equanimity towards these sensations, a non-judgmental point of view. A sensation can be pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral, and we might sense the natural habit of the mind to cling to pleasant and to get away from unpleasant. While practicing we might find ourselves drifting with thoughts, daydreaming, plans, etc. The moment we notice that, we can smile, understand that this is the habit of the mind to wonder around, and with no self-critic of any kind we bring our attention back to the body, back to the scan.
